Braidwood Memorial Day Services

Braidwood’s Memorial Day Ceremony begins at 9 a.m., Monday at the Reed Township Veterans Memorial, across the street from the Braidwood City Hall.  Congressman Adam Kinzinger, State Sen. Sue Rezin, Will County Executive Larry Walsh and Mayor Bill Rulien are scheduled to speak. The Reed Custer School’s music department will present  music. The Braidwood Chamber of Commerce will serve refreshments following the ceremony in the City Hall.

ICE Meeting in Crete Postponed Due to NATO Security Concerned

A town hall meeting with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officials in Crete, Illinois regarding the proposed immigrant detention center in Crete has been postponed due to security concerns raised by the NATO meetings in Chicago. The town hall meeting had been requested by U.S. Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr..  Here is a press release from Jackson's Chief of Staff Rick Bryant which was posted on nocretedetentioncenter.com : "This is an important update for Crete residents. The town hall meeting for the proposed Crete detention has been postponed due to security concerns raised by NATO and outside protesters who are threatening to come to Crete. Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., after consulting with local and federal law enforcement officials, has agreed to postpone Monday’s scheduled hearing for security reasons. The Congressman remains opposed to a detention center in Crete, and ICE officials remain committed to coming to Crete to listen to residents’ concerns,

Teachers Rally to Save Pensions in Joliet
