Silver Cross Replacement Hospital Opens February 26, 2012

The Silver Cross Replacement Hospital at Route 6 and I-355 in New Lenox will open at 7:00 a.m. on February 26, 2012.  Here is a video of the New Silver Cross Hospital from Route 6 and I-355 South:

The new, 289 bed facility is replacing the current Silver Cross Hospital on Route 6 and Walnut Street in Joliet.  The emergency room facility at Joliet’s Silver Cross Hospital will be turned into a 60,000 square foot outpatient mega-clinic for area veterans after the Silver Cross move to the replacement hospital in New Lenox.

At an August 2011 announcement of the mega-clinic, Congressman Adam Kinzinger stated: "“Today's news of the mega-clinic for veterans in Joliet's Silver Cross Hospital is truly outstanding,” said Kinzinger.  “This new facility will go a long way toward providing access to health care services to veterans in the Joliet and Will County region of Illinois.  As a veteran and Air National Guard pilot, I believe we must ensure our men and women receive quality and affordable medical care.  Over the last eight months my office has remained committed to this cause.  The Joliet facility will provide veterans who have made significant sacrifices for our freedom with access to the medical care they deserve.”

US Senator Durbin added, "“Local veterans and community members have been the driving force behind this idea to convert the existing Silver Cross Hospital and bring VA services right in to the heart of Will County.  Today, their hard work has paid off,” said Durbin.  “I thank my colleagues in Congress and Secretary Shinseki who worked with us for many years to bring this idea to fruition.  Soon, veterans in and around Joliet will no longer have to travel very far to access the high-quality care they have earned.  These brave men and women have sacrificed so much for our country, it is great news that we can deliver on one of our promises to them today.”
