Two Positive COVID-19 Cases Close Peotone High School for Two Weeks

On Oct. 5, 2020, Peotone School District Superintendent Steve Stein announced Peotone High School would be closed from Oct. 6 to Oct. 19th after two positive COVID-19 cases.

Letter posted on the Peotone School District website:

"Yesterday we informed you of a positive COVID-19 case at Peotone High School, and unfortunately, we had another positive case today. We do not know if there is any connection between these two cases, or if they are completely separate from one another.

After discussions with the PHS administration, our building nurses and the Will County Health Department, I will be temporarily closing Peotone High School effective tomorrow, Tuesday, October 6. The building will remain closed to students through October 19. Tuesday, October 20, will be the first day back for in-person instruction for students and it will be a “B” Day.

If your student is considered a close contact due to this positive case, you will be informed separately later tonight via phone and email. During the temporary closure, if your child tests positive, please contact the PHS administration or Nurse Dawn Barber to make them aware of that diagnosis.

Tomorrow, students will be provided a catch up day to work on any assigned work at home. Teachers will plan to shift to remote learning, which will begin on Wednesday, October 7. Chromebook distribution will continue as scheduled, however, if you have been notified that you are a close contact and must quarantine, please just have a parent come to PHS to pick up your Chromebook at your assigned time.

This temporary closure also means that all PHS sports and activities are canceled during this time period. Please note, this closure ONLY affects Peotone High School, and not the other district buildings.

I know this is very disappointing to all of us, especially since the school year got off to such a great start in all of the Peotone 207-U buildings. We will get back on track but first we must take care to make certain these recent positive cases do not lead to a wider outbreak within PHS. I appreciate your patience and your understanding as we work to get back to in-person learning.

Sincerely,

Steve Stein"
