The Holiday Season will kick off in Downtown Joliet on Friday, November 26, 2021. The Christmas Tree lighting at 5:15 p.m. in Van Buren Plaza will be followed by the Holiday Parade at 5:30 p.m.. The festivities are organized by the Joliet City Center Partnership.  For more details, go here .

  Migrating Monarchs make a stop at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie!  Staff at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie and local nature enthusiasts have observed monarch butterflies at Midewin. Here is a video of monarchs at around 7:30 a.m. earlier this week:  Large roosting of monarchs were last observed at Midewin in 2018: More info on the monarchs from staff at Midewin: "The best time to look is just after sunrise and just before sunset. Bring a long camera lens and look into the trees. The Will County Board is seeking public input on how to spend $133 million in American Rescue Plan Act Federal Dollars. Check out this video for more info and how to submit comments:

  The Board of Education for Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 approved a Back to School plan that will make the wearing of masks optional for both staff and students. The plan contains guidelines for responding to changes in local health conditions. Read the full release on the District's website here .

  Joliet will celebrate Independence Day 2021 with fireworks at Joliet Junior College on Sunday, July 4, 2021.  For more details and a map explaining where to park, go to the City of Joliet website here .

The City of Lockport, Illinois will celebrate Independence Day with fireworks on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at dusk at Dellwood Park. Dellwood Park was built over 100 years ago by the Chicago and Joliet Electric Railroad Company.  Here are some views of Dellwood Park: 

The Forest Preserve District of Will County reports a bobcat sighting, photo of the bobcat in the Sand Ridge Savanna Nature Preserve: Photo Courtesy of the Forest Preserve District of Will County Press release on the bobcat sighting from the Forest Preserve District of Will County: "A game camera recently snapped the first photos of a bobcat walking through the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s   Sand Ridge Savanna Nature Preserve   in Custer Township.  The bobcat was captured by a camera in the  "This is the second bobcat sighting in a Will County preserve in a little over six months. A mother bobcat and her kittens were photographed walking through a small open area in  Kankakee Sands Preserve  also in Custer Township in late September. The cameras, which are triggered by motion, are used in the preserves to document animal numbers and movements. The information obtained by the cameras helps guide the Forest Preserve District's land management strategies. In add
