Press Release from the Village of Monee:
"(Monee, IL) – Today, Village of Monee Mayor Jay Farquhar officially announced the opening of an 850,000+ square foot Amazon fulfillment center in Monee.
The Amazon facility has been a priority under Mayor Farquhar’s administration and has been a project in the works for nearly 2 years.
“Without question, this has been a team effort and we couldn’t have achieved this without coordinated leadership and collaborative support from various agencies,” Farquhar said. “I thank Governor Bruce Rauner and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), John Greuling at Will County Center for Economic Development, and Will County Executive Larry Walsh for helping us get this deal done. Certainly projects like this couldn’t be achieved without the support of our legislators at the federal, state, county and especially at the local level. We needed all hands on deck and with everyone helping, we can now officially welcome Amazon to Monee.”
Mayor Farquhar said he was pleased at the latitude given by the village board to him and his staff to work with Seefried Industrial Properties in recruiting this project, which will bring approximately 10 times more jobs to Monee than any prior single economic development project.
Monee has taken a proactive role in becoming more business-friendly. Under Mayor Farquhar’s leadership the Village of Monee now has a full-time Economic Development Director, an enhanced Building Services Department, restructured TIF districts, and the incorporation of new Enterprise Zone along with regional advertising and participation in business recruiting events.
“Economic development is the product of a total team effort,” Farquhar said. “We have a good team of people working tirelessly for the Village of Monee and the end result is a major employer coming to Monee. Our team will continue to work to make Monee an even better place to live and to work.”
