Illinois To Begin Borrowing Federal Funds to Pay Unemployment Benefits

On June 19, 2020, the Illinois Department of Employment Security announced it will begin to borrow funds from the federal government to cover unemployment claims in Illinois.

The Department anticipates borrowing about $300 million through the end of June, and is approved to borrow up to $3.8 billion through September of this year.
