Nurses and Firefighters Hold Pre-Strike Rally at AMITA

Union nurses and firefighters joined together for a pre-strike rally:



Union nurses at AMITA St. Joes Medical Center in Joliet have filed a strike date of July 4, 2020.  Nurses say they have called a strike "due to unfair labor practices committed by the hospital and failure to reach an agreement regarding safe staffing, preservation of sick leave, PTO benefits, and fair wages. "

Several candidates opposed to the lithium battery plant under construction at the old Kmart warehouse in Manteno ran for elected office as part of the Freedom Party. According to unofficial results from the Kankakee County Clerk, the Freedom Party candidates are leading for the offices of Village President and Village Clerk, although there are many outstanding mail ballots and all results are unofficial until the County Clerk counts all mailed and provisional ballots.
