Illiana Corridor Releases Preferred Route, Between Wilmington, Illinois and Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie

UPDATE 2: April 2013 Public Meetings on Tier Two of the Illiana Corridor Study

UPDATE: The Illiana Corridor Planning Team has proposed two additional corridors alternatives,one of which passes just south of Manhattan, Monee, and University Park, Illinois.  This A3S2 alignment, below in red, also passes north of Elwood, Illinois and Beecher, Illinois:

These 2 new corridors, along with the originally recommended B3, above in green, will be studied by the planning team.  The public may submit comments to the Illiana Planning Team here.
UPDATE: More detailed maps of B3 

The Illiana Corridor Planning Group has released a preliminary recommendation for the proposed route for the Illiana Expressway.

The Route--referred to as "B3" in Illiana Corridor Planning Documents---runs from Indiana's Interstate 65 between Cedar Lake and Lowell to I-55 in Illinois between the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie and Wilmington.

Illiana corridor documents state route "B3" is the best balance of performance, minimizing 
impacts, financial viability and compatibility with community plans.

Will County News attended a public meeting December 2011 public meeting where Illinois Department of Transportation officials discussed the Illiana Corridor Study.  Here are some videos of that public meeting:


The next public meetings on the Illiana will be:
INDIANA: Wednesday, February 22, 2012 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Crown Point High School 1500 South Main Street Crown Point, IN 46307 

ILLINOIS: Thursday, February 23, 2012 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Matteson Hotel and Conference Center (Holiday Inn) 500 Holiday Plaza Drive Matteson, IL 60443 

These meetings will be accessible to handicapped individuals. Anyone needing specific assistance should contact Kara Olson of Images, Inc. at (630) 510-3944.

The meetings will be an open house format and interested persons may attend anytime between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. There will be a continuous PowerPoint presentation, and attendees will have the opportunity to view study exhibits and speak with IDOT, INDOT and study team representatives on a one-on-one basis. 

A question and answer forum will be held at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. each day.
