Jackie Traynere Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Bolingbrook

Will County Board Member Jackie Traynere announced her candidacy for Mayor of Bolingbrook today, July 4, 2020.

Traynere lost a 2017 bid to unseat Mayor Roger Claar by 151 votes.

In Traynere's candidacy announcement, she expressed disagreement with Mayor Claar's assessment of how a potential Amazon warehouse would impact Bolingbrook.

As reported by Crain's Chicago Business, after Amazon spent $50.5 million to purchase land on Route 53 at the site of the former "Old Chicago" Amusement Park, Mayor Claar stated he did not want Amazon to build a warehouse.

In contrast, Traynere's announcement states: "I just can’t stand by while our Mayor tries to push out new good paying jobs like the ones that would come with a new Amazon distribution facility...Good paying entry level jobs with a career path are hard to come by and I support the Amazon facility"

Traynere also points to issues with property tax and garbage service: "I have been approached by so many residents, upset with our new garbage tax. For many this was a 40% or higher Bolingbrook property tax increase with no upgrades in service.  Many in town wanted toters for their trash like all the surrounding communities, and they didn’t get them despite voicing their approval at a community meeting."

The Bolingbrook election will occur during the Illinois Municipal Election on April 6, 2021.

Traynere also released this candidacy video, in which she pledged to be a full-time mayor:
