Joliet Elementary District 86 Decides to Start Year with Remote Learning
On July 27, 2020, Joliet Public Schools District 86 announced the 2020-2021 School Year will begin with remote learning.
Previously, the district had announced a hybrid model. The District states all students will be provided a District-issued technology device.
Letter posted on the District's website explaining the decision to begin the year remotely:
"As you know, the safety of our students and staff members remains our top priority in Joliet Public Schools District 86. With this in mind, after monitoring the continued rise of COVID cases across Illinois, reviewing updated guidance, and several sleepless nights, we have decided that we will begin the 2020-2021 school year for all students in Remote Learning.
This decision was not made lightly, but we cannot risk the safety and well-being of our students and employees as the uncertainties of this virus continue to evolve. We will reassess the situation half way through the first trimester to see if we can safely
transition into our Hybrid Learning Model for the second trimester.
In the next few weeks, parents will receive student classroom assignments and schedules. ALL District 86 students (PreKindergarten through Eighth Grade) will receive a District-issued technology device to use at home for the school year. In addition, we will host a Town Hall Zoom meeting on Monday, August 3rd at 12 noon to share more details about this revised Back to School plan. Information on the Zoom meeting will be posted on the District website (www.joliet86.org) and social media accounts."

Como saben, la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y miembros del personal son nuestra principal prioridad en las Escuelas Públicas de Joliet Distrito 86. Con esto en mente, después de monitorear el aumento continuo de casos de COVID en Illinois, revisar los guÃas actualizados y varias noches de insomnio, hemos decidido que comenzaremos el año escolar 2020-2021 para todos los estudiantes en Aprendizaje Remoto (Remote Learning).
Esta decisión no se tomó a la ligera, pero no podemos arriesgar la seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes y empleados a medida que las incertidumbres de este
virus continúan evolucionando. Volveremos a evaluar la situación a mitad del primer trimestre para ver si podemos hacer una transición segura a nuestro Modelo de Aprendizaje HÃbrido (Hybrid Learning Model) para el segundo trimestre.
